Getting started with Public Services

To get started using Public Services, follow the steps in this section. If you need additional assistance, visit the ArcWeb user forum. Public Services does not include access to ESRI Support Services. See Public Services overview for more information on the features of Public Services.

Step 1: Sign up for Public Services

Visit www.esri.com to sign up for Public Services. The sign-up process includes creating an ESRI Global Account if you do not already have one, filling out an online registration form, and reading and agreeing to a license agreement. After you accept the license, your account is automatically enabled and you are ready to use Public Services.

If you already have an ArcWeb Services account, you need to create a new ESRI Global Account to register for Public Services.

Step 2: Learn about Public Services

Before you use Public Services for the first time, you might want to learn about the different ways you can access ArcWeb Services and go over some of the tutorials and samples. Another easy way to learn about ArcWeb Services is to visit the ArcWeb site and browse through the topics in the Learn tab.

Step 3: Access Public Services

You can access Public Services through SOAP, OpenLS, ArcWeb Explorer JavaScript, ArcWeb Explorer Flex, REST, or J2ME Mobile Toolkit. See Accessing ArcWeb Services for more information about using these developer APIs to access ArcWeb Services. You can access SOAP and OpenLS services over HTTP or HTTPS. REST mapping and J2ME Mobile Toolkit are available over HTTP.
